Red Cross Society intensifies education on COVID-19

July 22nd, 2020 by

The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) says while the Coronavirus pandemic still ravages through the country, it will continue to strengthen its sensitisation and outreach programs to reach persons across the Upper West Region.

Over the past few weeks, the GRCS has been visiting market centres, lorry stations and other social gatherings to reiterate to residents the need to adhere to all health and safety protocols.

The Upper West Regional Manager of the GRCS, Jeremiah Afako said the exercises have become necessary after the realisation that messages of COVID-19 had not reached all parts of the region— particularly the remote areas.

Speaking to GBC at Wa, Mr Afako disclosed that the exercise is currently ongoing in some 5 Municipals and Districts in the region. They are Wa Municipal, Nadowli/Kaleo District, Lawra Municipal, Nandom Municipal and the Lambussie District.

According to Mr Afako, the areas were chosen based on a number of risk analysis factors. He said a critical look at the selected areas will show that they are places closer to neighbouring Burkina Faso or places with high volume of people.

The Upper West Regional Manager of GRCS further cautioned residents in the Upper West Region to remain vigilant. He said despite the high recoveries and discharges, the country is still not out of the woods. He said it is essential that “as a country, we work towards breaking the transmission”.

Mr Afako encouraged the wearing of nose mask and the constant washing of hands with running water and soap or with alcohol-based sanitizers.
