August 2, 2023

The Coca-Cola Foundation has donated $150,000 to the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) through its “Stop-The-Spread” Fund to support a national COVID-19 vaccination awareness campaign.

The funding comes from the Foundation’s grant to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in support of COVID-19’s multi-country action plan in Africa.

Receiving the contribution, Mr. Kwame Gyimah-Akwafo, President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, said it will help with COVID-19 preventive initiatives to minimize viral transmission. He stated that their nationwide vaccination campaign will reach six million individuals with vaccination messaging, including vaccine reluctance.

He emphasized that the actions will take place in rural places with restricted access to information.

“The Ghana Red Cross Society will use its unrivaled connection to communities to register eligible persons and promote vaccination distribution in hard-to-reach locations.” This step will also assist health facilities in establishing new outreach programs to reach out to last-mile populations as needed,” he said. Mr. Gyimah-Akwafo stated that since the emergence of the illness, they have been active in risk communication and social mobilization operations to ensure that vaccinations reach the most vulnerable and that communities have the correct information and tools to protect themselves.

Mr. Philip Boadu Assah, Senior Franchise Manager, Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa Territories, said it was everyone’s obligation to guarantee the progress and awareness of vaccination efforts across the country to eradicate the pandemic and provide a better-shared future.

He stated that the Foundation thought it could rely on GRCS to carry out large-scale field measures with the help of local health authorities to effectively combat the COVID-19 epidemic. “This contribution would enable the Ghana Red Cross Society to conduct awareness-raising initiatives and immunization programs for the benefit of our country’s population,” he continued.
